Featured in TBA News: Supporting Ohio’s Rural Communities Through Agricultural Law

This month’s issue of the Toledo Bar Association News shines a much-needed spotlight on agricultural law and the unique legal challenges faced by rural Ohio communities. From land use disputes and succession planning to environmental regulations and evolving energy contracts, rural attorneys wear many hats to serve families and businesses that are the backbone of our state’s economy.

One of the most pressing issues highlighted in the issue is the growing shortage of attorneys practicing in Ohio’s rural counties. This shortage doesn’t just stretch legal resources—it directly impacts access to justice for farmers, small business owners, and families who rely on timely and informed legal advice.

Wright & Moore attorneys Andy Wecker and Nicole Steiner were honored to contribute to this edition with their article, “Ohio’s Rural Roots: Agricultural Law for Farms, Families, and Futures.” In it, they explore the hands-on, relationship-driven nature of rural legal practice and the deep responsibility that comes with protecting farm legacies and community stability.

“Agricultural law is not just about land—it’s about legacy,” they write. “Whether negotiating a solar lease, drafting a trust, or guiding a family through succession, the stakes go far beyond a deed—they touch a family’s story and the vitality of rural communities.”

We encourage you to read the full article (pages 4–5) and explore the full May/June issue of TBA News, which includes reflections from rural practitioners, judicial leaders, and bar association initiatives aimed at closing the rural practice gap.
